The Cut Outs of Matisse to Honor Paris

Cut Outs of MatisseThe cut outs of Matisse family travel activity was inspired by the work of Henri Matisse (1869-1954). He studied and painted in the romantic city of Paris. His mastery of the expressive language of color and drawing, displayed in a body of work spanning over half a century, won him recognition as a leading figure in the world of modern art.

This travel art can be done in:

  • Cars
  • Planes
  • Trains
  • Hotel rooms


What you will need:

  • Printed Matisse Cut Outs template
  • A variety of brightly colored paper
  • Safety scissors and a glue stick


Directions:

Cut Outs of Matisse

  1. Print out the Matisse Cut Outs template.
  2. Put all drawing materials in a plastic lidded box ready for transporting. Give your children a tray to work on.
  3. Cut out a selection of abstract shapes from the colored paper using the template. Younger children may need help with this.
  4. Encourage your child to play around with the cut outs, arranging them in different ways to create abstract artworks. Talk with your child about his or her favorite shapes and colors.
  5. Once your child is happy with the masterpiece, glue the pieces down!

Read a handful of riad reviews, and you're likely to find words like “oasis” and “retreat” used over and over to describe the riad experience. People agree that a riad can be a relaxing escape from the chaos of many of Morocco's large cities – and this is especially true in Marrakech. Who wouldn't want to relax here? But what is a riad? A riad, in simplest terms, is a Moroccan guesthouse. But the term actually refers to the type of building the guesthouse is housed in.
