The Avant/Garde Diaries

It’s been a long time coming and we’re happy to announce that they’re here: the AVANT/GARDE DIARIES. The idea behind this new digital interview magazine, is to feature creatives from around the world which share one commonality: an unconventional and extraordinary approach to their line of work.

With their head quaters in New York City, the AVANT/GARDE DIARIES, a project by automobile mammuth MERCEDES-BENZ, are giving a platform to a selected number of people who share something they consider avant-garde. It is a very special honor to me, that I, too, was asked to introduce something or someone fitting that description. When it’s ready, of course I will happily share it with you.

A special concept calls for a special launch, and so Mercedes-Benz has invited Raf Simons, the Belgian head designer at Jil Sander, to function as the curator to a 3-day avant-garde-festival called Transmission1, located at the Berlin Congress Center on Alexanderplatz in Berlin.

More than 3000 people turned up to the opening night on Friday, among them many bloggers, journalists, artists and fashionistas who made for a special evening.

Guests were awaited by a unique art exhibition, featuring the work of artists from around the world, all handpicked by curator Raf Simons. What made the exhibition so unique was that not only objects were displayed, we also got to marvel at incredible dance performances by Michael Clark’s contemporary dance company, cinematic screenings, as well as an installation of bloggers DandyGum and Hapsical live-blogging from the event inside custom-made offices. A really awesome and creative way of offering a new perspective upon bloggers, I think. Well done, Mr Simons.

Our highlight of the entire Extravaganza were performances by some of the best live bands around such as These New Puritans…

and Fisherspooner, who I was particularly excited to see and was not let down. If you ever have a chance to see him and his dancers play live – definately go!

Heart of the exhibition was the dramatic display of the new Mercedes-Benz Concept A-CLASS.

When it comes to seeking out accommodation in Morocco, one option will show up in nearly every city: the riad . Read a handful of riad reviews, and you're likely to find words like “oasis” and “retreat” used over and over to describe the riad experience. People agree that a riad can be a relaxing escape from the chaos of many of Morocco's large cities – and this is especially true in Marrakech. Who wouldn't want to relax here? But what is a riad? A riad, in simplest terms, is a Moroccan guesthouse. But the term actually refers to the type of building the guesthouse is housed in.
